Over the past 50 years, traveling in automobiles has become much safer. Part of this is due to government regulations and part due to market forces. Given the criticality of enterprise IT products in our society today, we will likely see a combination of these two market influences work to reduce dangerous vulnerabilities and other defects in IT products. For consumer IT products, both the U.S. and E.U. governments are working on cybersecurity labeling standards. For enterprise IT products, the U.S. Federal is taking a relatively light touch so far through evangelization of its Secure by Design principles.
